Underwater Photography

Underwater photography is tricky ... most things in the ocean don't stay still for very long (or at all) or are very hard to find due to their size!  I have a thing for sea slugs (nudibranches) and other odd/hard to find creatures like leafy sea dragons.  Most of my time underwater is spent in the waters around Vancouver, Canada.

A small sample of my work...

PADI Courses

As a semi-retired PADI IDC Staff Instructor, I often am asked about diving and learning how to dive.

If you would like to start your Open Water Course and live in an area that has cold water, I will always encourage divers to start diving cold!  If this is a bit daunting for you OR you are heading on vacation, you have the option to do your course work and pool learning sessions in a local pool and get what is called a referral to finish up your dive course in the tropics

(the best of both worlds, and you are not doing course work on vacation!).

Another question that I am often asked is what dive shop do I choose?  I tend to use the 'find a dive shop' function on the PADI website whenever I am heading abroad; most often I choose an instructor development center or go on a recommendation by friends.  One more piece of advice...  if you only invest in 2 pieces of gear I always recommend a mask and a wetsuit that fits!
